Abstract

This study evaluates the effectiveness of doxycycline hyclate (Doxycine) in the treatment of the chronic disease of the hip. It includes patients who are not responding to standard therapy and those who have experienced poor response. We evaluated the efficacy of Doxycine as monotherapy or in combination with the standard regimen in the treatment of chronic hip arthritis (OA) and to evaluate the quality of life of patients with this type of arthritis. A total of 15 subjects were treated with 100 mg of Doxycine (10 mg/kg/day) and 10 subjects were treated with 100 mg of Doxycine (20 mg/kg/day) in one dose. All study patients were female with normal body mass index (BMI) of 35 kg/m2, weight of 28 kg and body surface area (BSA) of 2.2 m2. The subjects were evaluated at baseline, 12 and 24 months after treatment. The subjects were given a standard regimen of Doxycine with or without the addition of a standard regimen of a tetracycline-class antibiotic. After treatment, the subjects were randomized to receive either 100 mg of Doxycine (10 mg/kg/day) or 10 mg of Doxycine (20 mg/kg/day) twice a day for a period of 6 months. At the end of this period, the patients were evaluated for the quality of life. At the end of the study, the Doxycine group had a significant increase in global, functional, and subjective pain scores compared to the placebo group (P<0.001), and there was no significant difference in the incidence of osteoarthritis (OA), pain, or swelling (OA/chondrass) (P<0.05). Doxycycline 100 mg has an effective rate of improvement in the quality of life in patients with chronic hip arthritis. The clinical efficacy of Doxycine is well documented in the treatment of hip joint deformity and may be a useful treatment for hip joint diseases.
